Tarla graduated from Scripps College in Claremont, CA with a degree in mathematics and a minor in fine arts. While at Scripps she was privileged to study watercolor with Phil Dike and Phil Paradise and design with Jean Goodwin Ames. Later, while living in San Diego, she studied ceramics with Rhoda LeBlanc Lopez at the University of California, San Diego.
Now after retiring from a career in computer science, she is working with acrylics and oils - experimenting in color, shape and texture. She recently moved back to Nevada County after an absence of 7 years. She lived in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where she studied drawing and the classical oil layering process with Lorenzo Zepeda. She also studied oil technique with Julie Ford Oliver and was a member of the Las Cruces Arts Association. Her works were shown in several galleries in Las Cruces and she received a third place award for her painting “La Porte 1” in the 2012 annual LCAA member show.
Many of her works are images of scenes from Italy and southern France (where she lived part time from 2001-2011).
